Dark is best
I found the mild was undrinkable and the medium barely tolerable. But the dark roast is quite good. Its on the Starbuck-type bitter side but not as strong. None of these single serving coffee machines will taste like fresh ground. That is why you get some one star reviews for the Senseo.
I keep the Senseo in my office for hassle-free single servings and it is great for that. Even the dark roast is really not strong enough to qualify as espresso so I suggest you just use the double packets and make a large cup.
Here is a further hint. Use a 10 oz cup not a standard 8. Then put your milk in the cup and microwave for 30 seconds BEFORE you make the coffee. After coffee is make make sure to stir with a stirrer. Stirring is important and is actually recomended by Philips.
As long as your expectations are down to earth you should enjoy this product. The machine itself has been flawless and doesnt seem flimsy at all.More detail ...
Great coffee
If you are looking to sample the Senseo coffee pod flavors this is a good way to start. You will probably find a favorite in this group and then you can order your favorite individually. All of Senseo coffee products have been a good buy for me--I like the flavor of the coffee and the price through Amazon.com with free shipping.

excellent coffee and nice to have variety
I am a big fan of the Senseo coffee maker and their pods. The Senseo makes better coffee with crema than I can get at any coffee shop in the USA including Pete's and Starbucks which don't even try. Most of the coffee selections are very good with only one that is a bit lacking in aroma and flavor but that is a personal judgment and others might light different ones more or maybe less.
A low risk product that is bound to please anyone that like the regular Senseo dark roast coffee.

The Best.....the price?
We were among the first owners of a free Senseo coffeemaker way back like 10 or more years ago. We have a white machine in our laundryroom & then bought my husband a black one for work. Soooooooo I guess you could say we looooooove this coffee/method of making it & medium roast is the best. I recently saw Douwe Egberts non-pod coffee @ a local gourmet shop & it was like $9 something for 12oz! Good to know one can get the coffee to use in a regular drip pot as well however @ that price I guess we will just continue to have this as "treat coffee" via our machine.
All this being said I would like to say that @ both Target & Walmart here in Buffalo NY area stores I can get the pods for $4.24 each. However when Target in particular wants to rotate stock they mark it down to the wonderful price of $4!!!!! Needless to say I buy them out go to another store & do the same. That's almost $4 less for 6 bags than Amazon sells it for!!!! I encourage all of you Senseoholics to do the same & check out the above mentioned stores. I wish Amazon would stop reminding me it's so cheap when they don't mark it down to Target's level.
